 Rhiannon Williams - Artistic Director

Rhiannon is a 20 year old student from Kent but currently studying in Plymouth, in her third year undertaking a BA (Hons) Dance Theatre at Plymouth University. She is trained strongly in Release Technique, Contact Improvisation, floor based work (Flying Low) and Rock 'n' Roll. Since a young age Rhiannon has been enjoying Rock 'n' Roll through weekly classes with Folkestone Teeny Boppers, monthly live band nights and yearly medal tests. In her final medal test she qualified with a Highly Recommended with a score of 98/100. 

 

From starting secondary school at Brockhill Park Performing Arts College , Rhiannon joined Instep Dance Company and begun her first intensive training in Release Technique at the age of 14.  Not long after was she selected to take part in Lila Dance's Youth Company 'The Mayakaras', to were Physical Theatre was first introduced to her. Being a part of The Mayakara's for 3 years, Rhiannon's love for Physical Theatre only grew as she won 'The Mayakara Award' in her final year of Sixth Form. In addition to also, successfully gained a place in Trinity Laban's Youth Dance Company and having the amazing opportunity to share a working weekend with Candoco Dance Company. Rhiannon also had the opportunity to work with a Jasmin Vardimon dancer on a small work called 'Crash' with company members from Instep. 

 

After leaving Sixth Form and moving to University Rhiannon got to work and receive tutor time with lectures Ruth Way and Adam Benjamin (Co-founder of Candoco Dance Company). From this she has discovered a strong interest in Improvisation and Inclusive Practice. She also had the fantastic opportunity to be taught by Sophie Colthurst, Charlotte Eatok, Clair Beckett and Heather Walrond, in addition to taking workshops with StopGap Dance Company, Russell Maliphant Company and ZoieLogic. Finishing her second year at University, she received a huge honour of becoming Plymouth University's Deans Award Winner 2015, for her hard work and dedication. Winning an all expenses paid trip to Prague and the title of Plymouth University Dean's Award Ambassador for Dance Theatre and Theatre and Performance. 

 

During the summer 2015 Rhiannon became a volunteer with Plymouth Dance and helped in the running of U.Dance 2015. Not only this, but through her volunteer work ended up helping Exim Dance Company's mixed ability dance group Adapt. Rhiannon has had a strong interest in choreography through modules she studies at the University, and wanted to observe and gain more of an understanding on how to craft material. She supported Exim Dance Company's Research and Development period as Personal Assistant to Lynsey Dart and Assistant Choreographer to Claire Summers.

 

Currently Rhiannon is finishing her final year at Plymouth University, is taking her Level 2 Dance Leadership with Exim Dance Company and has continued on as a Plymouth Dance volunteer. Rhiannon is founder of With Company and is in trial mode for working on her choreography.
